TYPES OF FILM CARRIAGES

TOWERS AND TURNTABLES

There are a few different heights of towers available (usually 2.4m – 3.0m) and also a variety of different turntable available to suit your pallet requirements, from standard 1650mm Ø, right up to approx 3.0m Ø for oversized pallets.

There are also low profile turntables which don’t require standard ramps and turntables for euro-pallets.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Semi-Automatic Pallet Wrappers – These machines require an operator to attach the film to the load at the beginning and cut and secure it at the end of the wrapping cycle. They are suitable for operations wrapping up to 15 pallets per hour.

  • Fully Automatic Pallet Wrappers – These systems perform the entire wrapping process without human intervention, including attaching, cutting, and securing the film. They are ideal for high-volume operations and can be integrated into existing conveyor systems for continuous workflow.

  • Core Brake – Applies resistance to the film roll using friction or a spring mechanism, creating tension during wrapping.
  • Electromagnetic Brake – Uses an electromagnet to control film release, offering more precise tension control and improved film economy compared to core brake systems.
  • Power Pre-Stretch – Features motorised rollers that stretch the film up to 250% before application, maximising film efficiency and load stability. It is essential to use compatible film with this type of carriage.
  • Load Characteristics – Assess the size, weight, and stability of your pallets.
  • Production Volume – Determine the number of pallets wrapped daily. Semi-automatic machines are suitable for lower volumes, while fully automatic systems are better for high-volume operations.
  • Available Space – Ensure adequate floor space for the machine and consider any height restrictions.
  • Budget – Balance the initial investment with potential long-term savings in labour and material costs.
  • Integration Needs – Decide if the wrapper needs to integrate with existing conveyor systems or other automated processes.

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity:

  • Lubrication – Keep moving parts properly lubricated.
  • Inspection – Regularly check for worn or damaged components and replace them as needed.
  • Cleaning – Remove dust and debris to prevent build-up that can affect operation.
  • Software Updates – Apply updates to control systems when available.
  • Professional Servicing – Schedule periodic maintenance with qualified technicians to address complex issues and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Yes, pallet wrappers can accommodate various pallet sizes and shapes:

  • Adjustable Settings – Machines often feature adjustable parameters to handle different dimensions.
  • Customisable Turntables and Towers – Options include different turntable diameters and tower heights to suit specific pallet sizes, from standard 1650mm to larger 3000mm diameters for oversized loads.
  • Specialised Turntables – Low-profile turntables are available for easy loading without ramps, and designs compatible with Euro pallets are also offered.
  • Film Efficiency – Stretches film up to 250%, reducing material usage and cost.
  • Improved Load Stability – Provides consistent and optimal tension, enhancing load security during transport.
  • Cost Savings – Decreases the amount of film required per load, leading to significant savings over time.
  • Environmental Impact – Reduces plastic waste due to lower film consumption.
  • Compatibility – Ensure the film matches the specifications of the film carriage, especially for power pre-stretch systems.
  • Thickness (Gauge) – Thicker films offer greater durability for heavy or irregular loads, while thinner films are suitable for lighter, uniform pallets.
  • Material Quality – High-quality films provide better stretchability and puncture resistance, improving load containment and reducing breakage.
  • Cost Considerations – Selecting the appropriate film can lead to cost savings by optimising material usage and minimising waste.
